Coconut Oil..
I've been hearing lately how amazing coconut oil is for skin and hair so I thought I'd see if all the hype was true. I went over to Wegman's on my lunch break today and picked up a jar of Virgin Coconut Oil (unrefined). I must have looked suspicious with my toothpaste, Baby lips lip gloss, and coconut oil because the cashier definitely asked me what I planned to do with the coconut oil! She seemed super intrigued that I was going to use it on my face and hair.
I haven't quite gotten to the hair part, but I did use it to wash my face last night and take off my eyeliner/mascara, and then again this morning. I was kind of shocked that it took my eye makeup off super easily and didn't burn my eyes or anything. Has the day finally come where I'm no longer a slave to Neutrogena makeup wipes?? Anyways, I ran warm water over the jar until the oil melted a bit (it's a solid lump before that) and slather it on my face. Then I went about brushing my teeth before washing it off with warm water. I have to say my face feels and smells amazing. Here's hoping it doesn't cause breakouts, but if it keeps me super moisturized in winter like it's supposed to then I'll definitely keep it up.
Do you use coconut oil? Does this make me a hippie? Stay tuned, hopefully it's the miracle product everyone says it is!

P.S.- Speaking of coconut, that coconut mocha donut shop K-cup in the background? SO GOOD!

I've heard the same thing! I really want to try it but sadly can't find it where I live. I've also heard it helps with losing hair (a problem I've had since moving overseas)
ReplyDeleteYay, so glad to see you trying this. I purchased this about a month ago for a severely dry scalp and dandruff. Gross, I know.. but I'm not about to try something like head & shoulders. I used a spoon and clumped it into my hand and it literally melted in my hand and I rubbed it into my scalp. I did this to my whole head and tied it into a towel and left it overnight. The next morning I washed my hair, it came out super nicely (didn't leave my hair greasy) and my hair felt fabulous that day. I've done it a few times since but it hasn't felt quite the same as the first time I tried it. LOVE, LOVE coconut oil!
ReplyDeleteI would love to try this. Keep us updated on everything you use it for!
ReplyDeleteI use unscented lotion to take off my make up because my skin is so dry. If this makes you break out (I don't think it will) then you should give it a try.
i just bought some coconut oil too because my friend with the best skin ever swears by it!
ReplyDeleteI use it to shave my legs! My legs have never been smoother and it really helps the winter dryness. I'm a convert! And I'm alright if anyone calls me "hippie" too.
ReplyDeleteLovely blog!
ReplyDeleteooohhh i should try this! makeup wipes burn the heck out of my skin! thanks for sharing this!
ReplyDeletebetter late than never, but happy new year!!!

I just recently started cooking more with coconut oil but haven't heard of using it for the face and hair. PLEASE do a follow up post on how it is working!!! Fingers crossed for no breakouts.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I am so glad you posted this, because I saw this at Trader Joe's the other day and was thinking...aren't there a bunch of good uses for this stuff??...I am going to buy some this week and experiment with it too!
ReplyDeleteMy first take away from this post is - Wegmans?! You live near a Wegmans? I'm so jealous. I always go there when I'm visiting my friend in Syracuse.
ReplyDeleteI really, really want to try this now. You lit a fire under my ass to go out and find some coconut oil. It's on!
Yay! So glad you tried it! Coconut oil for life!!!
ReplyDeleteGet the extra virgin kind! This brand is the same one I picked up at first, but it's refined. Refining causes the coconut oil to lose a ton of nutrients!
ReplyDeleteI went out and bought the extra virgin one today... and mixed it with a few other oils I bought for the most amazing hair mask. Check it out:

You'll notice more benefits with the extra virgin (and it smells more coconutty!)
Wegmans! How I love (and miss) Weggies! I've been using coconut oil for a few months... I have 2 jars, one for cooking and one for skin and I love it!
ReplyDeleteoh, and I love that mocha coconut k-cup too! It's my favorite!
yes, yes, yes!
ReplyDeletecoconut oil is the best for getting your eye makeup off and being a moisturizer. and it melts so easily if you scrape up a little bit in your hand, you almost don't need to run it under water to melt it.
oh, I'm so not a hippie/patient enough to use natural remedies for everything, but this is my favorite.
